Keeping Kids Safe - Tip #1

With the school year underway, CAC wants to help parents keep kids safe. Social media can be fun and a way to connect with friends. It can also introduce kids to online "friends" who are not so friendly.

CAC is seeing an increase in tech-related cases where kids are asked to share photos of themselves or their body parts with people who they think are their friends. However, these photos are often used to threaten the child into sending more revealing photos or worse.

One way to help keep your kids safe online is to use the parental controls feature on the social media sites your child is using. CAC Forensic Interviewer Taylor Edmunds created a handout with the QR codes for each site's parental controls. On those web pages, you can read more about:

  • online safety

  • how to see your child's activity

  • limiting access according to your family's rules

You can download the English-Spanish QR code handout below. Or, links to the parental controls pages are listed underneath the PDF.

If you need help with using the parental controls, email CAC Forensic Interviewer Taylor Edmunds.
