Introducing ASA Heather Kent



Assistant State's Attorney Heather Kent will be the 2024 Bloom keynote speaker for Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County, sharing about her work with CAC and young survivors of abuse or violence.


Since 2006, Heather Kent has worked as a prosecutor with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Heather has extensive experience as a criminal prosecutor having litigated hundreds of motions and trials, including bench and jury trials. Currently, she is a deputy supervisor in the Juvenile Justice Division. Heather takes great pride when working with the assistant state's attorneys she supervises to make charging decisions and offers that are balanced, just and equitable and that comport with the Balanced and Restorative Justice Model.

 

Prior to her current assignment, Heather was a lead attorney in the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Division prosecuting complex sex and domestic violence crimes out of the Skokie Courthouse and Rolling Meadows Courthouse. In SADV, Heather was afforded the incredible opportunity to work with and on behalf of some of our community’s most vulnerable victims. She is in awe of their strength, as well as the advocates and attorneys with whom they walk.

 

 Outside of the courtroom, Heather has participated in volunteerism to help better understand and appreciate the community she serves having organized and participated in volunteer opportunities with organizations including Cradles to Crayons, Feed My Starving Children and Bernie’s Book Bank. For the past several years, Heather has taught students at Lorca Elementary School in Chicago about various constitutional and legal issues through the Lawyers in the Classroom program.
